ASA/AMATYC Joint Committee
Charge:
The purpose of the ASA/AMATYC Joint Committee on Statistics and Data Science is to: • improve the quality of statistics and data science education in two-year colleges by planning workshops, conference presentations, and other effective forms of professional development for two-year college statistics instructors; • promote consistency and transferability between of statistics and data science courses offered at between two-year and four-year colleges; • foster communication between two-year and four-year colleges relative to the statistical and data science preparation of two-year and four-year faculty members; • ensure ongoing communication between the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) and the American Statistical Association (ASA) with the objective of identifying changing trends in undergraduate statistics education; • communicate with two and four-year colleges relative to the statistical preparation of elementary and secondary teachers; • collaborate with K-12 mathematics educators to address the effect of pre-college statistical education on statistics and data science courses taught in two-year colleges.
Composition:
The ASA/AMATYC Joint Committee on Statistics and Data Science is composed of three appointed members from ASA and three from AMATYC. The term of appointment as a committee member is three years. Each organization holds the chair for two years, as the chair position rotates between the ASA and AMATYC. Liaisons from the AMATYC Executive Board and from the ASA Education Council leadership are ex officio members.
