The Caucus for Women in Statistics (CWS) established the CWS Societal Impact Award in 2020 to recognize statisticians whose contributions have influenced communities at large in terms of advancing social justice, or diversity, equity and inclusion (EDI), through their research, teaching or service. This session is organized to feature the award recipient, with the intent to promote the active involvement of statisticians in society.

In this session, the inaugural award recipient, Melody S. Goodman, and her colleague Rebecca Betensky, will speak about the Quantitative Public Health Data Literacy Training Program (https://bit.ly/3raCceR) and the Pipelines into Quantitative Aging Research Summer Program (https://bit.ly/3r6uylK), respectively, followed by a moderated discussion, led by Nairanjana Dasgupta, on the importance of diversity in biostatistics and data science and the need to invest in training programs.
