It is a common misconception that opportunities for novel statistical research are limited to positions in academia or industry. Often overlooked is the active community of government statisticians, biostatisticians, and data scientists whose work affects many areas of our everyday lives. Government-sector analysts apply their knowledge and expertise to an array of interesting and challenging problems from diverse areas such as biomedical technology, public health, communications, and forensics. This session features talks by four government statisticians from the NIH and NIST, providing attendees an overview of the variety of statistical applications and research that occur in government positions.
