Having the end of your degree in sight is something to celebrate. However, the final stretch of your program can also be stressful. You're now expected to tie up the loose ends in your research, write everything up, and operate more independently. While this career stage can be exciting, the unstructured time and reduced feedback can lead to feelings of isolation and that your research isn't worthwhile. Further, the need to solidify career plans and start applying for jobs creates additional pressure. This panel of recent graduates will discuss their experiences during the last stage of their degree programs. Panelists will share advice for staying motivated, developing plans for the future, managing stress, and fighting isolation. They will also share how they made decisions about career paths and advice for finding academic and industry positions.

Panelists: Claire McKay Bowen (Urban Institute) Yawen Guan (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) Maryclare Griffin (University of Massachusetts Amherst) Dinah Shender (Google)

Chair: Hannah Director (Colorado School of Mines)
