Finding Your People: Networking for Collaboration and Friendship

Finding Your People: Networking for Collaboration and Friendship (309620)

*Julia Sharp, Colorado State University

A professional network is undeniably important, and for decades literature has shown the importance of professional networks for career opportunities and advancement. The positive impact of professional networks is even stronger for women and under-represented minorities. Research has consistently shown that women with a circle of close, highly connected women peers are more successful than those without.

As collaborative statisticians, networks within our statistical community are as important as those with the scientists with whom we work. This panel will share about turning work relationships into long-term collaborations and friendships. The panelists are all successful women who are collaborative statisticians and who have built friendships through their own professional networks. The panelists will share stories and advice from their own careers to help attendees consider building their own networks towards career success for themselves and their friends.

Panelists: Emily Griffith, North Carolina State University, Rebecca Hubbard, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, ReneƩ Moore, Emory University
