Statisticians and data scientists play a crucial role with respect to increasing the numerical literacy, methodologic competency, and research capacity of community members, students, and professionals across a wide range of disciplines. In addition to designing educational initiatives that can target audiences with varying levels of familiarity with statistics and data science, some educators in our field are deliberate about ensuring that the knowledge disseminated through these initiatives is more equitably distributed. In this panel, exceptional statisticians and data scientists from academic medicine and the basic sciences will engage us in an important discussion about the complex interplay between education and privilege and share their innovative strategies for reducing traditional barriers to training in statistical and computational methods.
