Keywords: Data Visualization

Analysis via clusters, is one of the ways to understand heterogeneity within a cohort. We introduce, panelmap, a data visualization tool for viewing grouped data and its differentiated features in single and multi-panel layouts. panelmap provides information rich data summaries elaborating upon patterns and trends in a given dataset at a glance, instead of tabular representations or trying to infer multiple plots at once. It includes the option to perform statistical tests and can output descriptive summaries to understand the distribution of features across clusters. Data and color code legends of the plot are automated, and one can even annotate missingness allowing various customizations for the user to generate rich and publication quality visualizations. A multi-panel layout function, circomap, for more than one cohort is also available. circomap, arranges more than one panelmaps in a circular layout, conveying information across various datasets.

panelmap is written in R and is available on GitHub at https://github.com/arorarshi/panelmap
