Go with the Flow: Data Visualization Using Sankey Bar Charts (309546)
*Jessica Lavery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer CenterKeywords: data visualization, sankey, flow diagram
Sankey bar charts are a type of flow diagram used to visualize two types of proportions simultaneously: the proportion in each group at a given time point, as well as the proportion that changed, or flowed, between groups. For example, they may be used to demonstrate changes in a Likert scale responses pre- and post-intervention, so that the percent responding favorably at the first and second timepoints may be presented at the same time as the percent of respondents that changed groups. In this talk I will review the key features of Sankey bar charts, discuss opportunities for utilizing this data visualization tool, and highlight software for creating these figures using SAS and R.
