An increasing number of organizations have instituted data governance policies and programs in recent years. Data governance refers to the process of managing the availability, usability, quality and security of data. A well-designed data governance program typically includes a governing body and a team of data stewards that together generate the policies and procedures for governing data within an organization. These teams require specialized expertise from different, but related disciplines. Speakers will discuss approaches to defining, developing and deploying a data governance program and challenges that arise in undertaking these steps. Implementation of standards to be sure the data are reproducible and correct will be discussed, as well as approaches to be sure the data are being used for appropriate purposes. Other topics such as measures for assessing data quality, tracking of data sources, ensuring data privacy and legality of data sharing will be discussed. *Sponsored by Caucus of Women in Statistics
