Keywords: Stannous fluoride, Meta-analysis

“All fluoride toothpastes are the same” is a common misconception in oral health. Seventy-one randomized clinical studies with seven thousand subjects across eight countries worldwide were included in this research. Meta-analyses using inverse variance method with both fixed and random-effects models were done to evaluate bioavailable stannous fluoride toothpastes across various benefit areas: gingivitis, plaque, sensitivity and erosion. The results demonstrate the superiority of bioavailable stannous fluoride toothpastes over toothpastes containing other fluorides and/or active ingredients.
