This session will highlight the major contribution of Professor Elizabeth Thompson in the interdisciplinary field of statistical genetics. Over a span of nearly 50 years, her brilliant career has focused on providing rigorous statistical tools for gene-mapping through the estimation of identity-by descent sharing among family members as well as in population samples by utilizing the genome-wide genetic data. Her methodologies have significant contribution in statistical science as well with the monte carlo likelihood estimation for complex graphical structures as pedigrees. In addition to her scientific contributions, Professor Thompson has an impressive record in training students who have secured positions in academia as well as in industry. This session will involve presentations from her students on different fields of statistical genomics. The speakers are Dr. Shili Lin from The Ohio State University, Dr. Mariza de Andrade from Mayo Clinic, Dr. Saonli Basu from University of Minnesota and Dr. Arindam RoyChoudhury from Cornell University.
