What do you want to be when you grow up? This question is asked regardless if you are 5 years old or 70! Even thou the answer might change with time, there are some techniques that we could put in place in order to get us closer to our “grown up version” or ideal future. One of these techniques is taking part on a career mapping session. Using career mapping to create clear paths for advancement can help grow in-house talent in a company. It can also assist on retaining and recruiting individuals. In this talk we will cover our take on what it means to make a career map, what tools are available, and what mechanism companies like a national laboratory are using to assist their employees in working towards their dream job. We will provide our own experience as an example. Finally, we will derive pros and cons of using this approach for career advancement.
