Creating Value Through Analytics Within an Organization (306455)

As statisticians and data scientists we dream of working combining big datasets with the latest statistics/ML techniques that achieve the highest predictability to then move to the next modelling problem. But what happens if the progress of your career depends on how much you can extend the business-client relationship and you have to gain sponsorship from other business lines? How can you show your value in the short term under these constraints?. At GFBanorte (GFB) I have been a founding member of the Analytics Department (AD). In a span of 4 years the AD has generated $2 billion USD of value and has contributed to position GFB as the 2nd largest financial group in Mexico (from 4th before AD). I have participated in all stages of the creation of value: understanding data, building models, designing marketing campaigns and communicating results. I have realized how our background (gender, culture and education) can potentially distort our negotiation and leadership skills and prevent us from achieving a successful career. In this talk I will offer some tips and examples on how to create value through analytics while using managerial skills to grow your influence on business lines
