Women remain underrepresented in data science, despite growing interest and participation in online and brick-and-mortar learning platforms and communities. This presentation summarizes information gathered from multiple data sources on data science education, salaries, communities of practice, and portfolio-building. Questions of interest that are addressed include: What tools should one prioritize learning/using? Which learning platforms are preferred by aspiring data scientists? Where can one find ideas and inspiration for unique data science projects? What types of data science jobs are available in various geographic areas? Which companies promote gender diversity as a value of importance? What types of career paths can one pursue in data science? As a result of this presentation, the audience will have a better understanding of what it takes to attain their dream job in statistics and data science. Engagement with the audience will generate additional questions, conversation, and data to help guide aspiring women data scientists towards rewarding careers.
