Opportunities, Challenges, and Outreach in Collaborative Environments

A Little Bit of This … a Little Bit of That: Multidisciplinary Project and Outreach Experience as a Research Scientist at a National Laboratory (304875)

*Romarie Morales Rosado , Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Keywords: Outreach, Machine learning, Design of Experiments, Detection

Provide an overview of breadth of projects and applications spaces I had worked on as a Research Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Some of them include Design of experiments on Ultrasonic testing, Passenger Movement, object classification, and STEM outreach. Main points, task specific accomplishments and take home messages will be provided for each project space. For example we applied machine learning and deep learning tools in order to classify the location of origin of the facilities of interest obtaining at least a 0.90 accuracy. Also, participated on a Design of experiments task to identify the set of experiments (empirical and simulation) necessary to quantify the effectiveness of Ultrasonic Testing under limited coverage conditions. Made comparisons and accuracy checkup from model created to count amount of passengers at a given time and observed data from passengers at an airport. Finally, use my Scientist position as an avenue to influence woman and latin@s as the next generation of Statisticians.
