One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the relationships I've had with individuals who are both junior and senior to me. Many of those people are women, and most of the relationships came about unexpectedly. That is, the mentors and mentees I've had are not people who were "assigned" to me, but rather they are people who I grew close with over time. Indeed, I don't mentor as an altruistic act; quite the opposite, the mentoring I do is purely selfish, I do it because I get something out of it. In this talk, I'll discuss aspects of mentoring that have been successful for me and what I have gained by being a mentor and a mentee.
