Keywords: blockchain technology, data science, data security and privacy

There is a rising interest in the blockchain technology for shaping the virtual economy in various domains via scalable cooperation among trust-less parties. It is characterized by the decentralized infrastructure, anonymity, and information security among other features. As the blockchain technology advances along with its applications, it is expected that a persistent problem of data security and privacy in the data science industry can be overcome by the blockchain technology. It is believed to change the way we access and share data and information in the future. In this work, we briefly review the blockchain technology and its application to data science along with the potential advantages and challenges it may bring to the practice of data science.
