The focus of this study is the NIS (National Inpatient Sample) from 2012—2017. For each year, the patrental organization AHRQ of NIS selects a 20% random sample of all admissions from each hospital in the USA. CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) conducts a survey of a random sample of households to gather information on asthma sufferers. Apparently, some of the sufferers end up in hospitals. One of the goals is to examine what percentage of chronic sufferers end up in hospitals. For example, in 2012, 0.89 % of Adult sufferers and 1.94% of pediatric sufferers ended up in hospitals, respectively. We will document the numbers along with standard errors year by year from 2012 to 2017. Gender and racial differences will be probed in depth. State-wide trends will be examined also. In the case of NIS, data from a few states is missing in every year of the study. We will introduce a novel imputation method to fill in the missing data and thus enhance our analysis.
