R and Python contain extensive libraries for analyzing and modeling data. By creating easy to use interfaces with those languages, developers of existing statistical software packages can make it easy for their users to access those libraries from within their packages. This paper demonstrates how one package, Statgraphics, has implemented methods for interfacing with both R and Python. The interface includes automated data exchange, execution of saved scripts, and access to selected libraries using point-and-click dialog boxes.
