The Teaching and Learning Research Center (TLRC) focuses on promoting excellence in research on teaching and learning at the University of California, Irvine. Through collaborative, large scale, cross-discipline, and longitudinal research projects the TLRC focuses on the effective analysis of "big data" in education research, and has important applications for the already established field of Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER; NRC, 2012), a promising avenue for improving student performance and retention in STEM (García-Peñalvo et al., 2017). Focusing on student equity, trajectories in STEM, and graduation success, we will 1) introduce quantile regression methods developed for evaluating student equity in STEM; 2) outline the data access given to senate faculty to expand University data capabilities and leverage institutional data to inform UCI efforts to improve student success; and 3) present our Academic Success Research Fellows program as an effective collaboration to build interest in research on teaching and learning.
