Farmers around the globe make more than 40 business-critical decisions each year that significantly impact their economic return and feed a burgeoning global population.? One of the most critical decisions is selecting the best seed and crop protection products to sustainably optimize production in their unique combination of weather, soil, pests, and management practices.? Providing the best seed, trait, and crop protection solutions to farmers around the globe requires keen understanding of genetics, environments, management practices, plant phenotypes, and their interactions. Each year we collect petabytes of data on millions of experimental plots across thousands of unique environmental conditions. These data range in complexity from how many seeds per plot, to daily weather patterns, to the genetic fingerprint of each test entry, consisting of >5000 molecular markers. At Bayer Crop Science we leverage commercial, open-source, and custom software to apply decision science tools and derive insights from the complex interactions between genotypes, phenotypes, and environments to create industry-leading solutions for farmers around the world. In this talk I will present examples of how data science has revolutionized how we develop, test, characterize and offer tailored agronomic solutions to farmers at a global scale.
