For teaching data mining and advanced analytics, I have used a combination of R and JMP for several years. The interactive nature and graphical ease of JMP make it an ideal environment for student understanding of machine learning algorithms. The Profiler and Variable Importance features, in particular, make it a valuable asset in teaching such a course.
