Keywords: data visualization, high-performance computing, failure analysis, transient fault, cosmic ray

Data visualization has become an important communication tool to explain certain features and gain intuition about the data. But we have to be careful. Big data tends to be high volume and density, so more simplistic graphics like bar charts will visually lack the additional information that we can leverage from big data. In my talk, I highlight the challenges of analyzing big spatial and temporal data from Los Alamos National Laboratory supercomputers, Cielo and Trinity, to identify what causes computer faults. We see that data visualizations tell a story that answers existing questions and creates more for future research.
