IHME’s overarching mission is to provide an impartial, evidence-based picture of global health trends to inform the work of policymakers, researchers, and funders. The success of that mission relies on the dissemination of complex data to stakeholders with variable levels of global health expertise. Thus, our challenge as a Data Visualization Team is to create web-based visualizations that are consumable by audiences that may range from expert data modelers to politicians who know nothing about statistics or global health. This presentation summarizes IHME’s data visualization tools while outlining our strategies for gathering requirements, creating web-based visualizations, and satisfying our substantially different user groups.
