In Costa Rica, during the last 17 years there has been an increase in the number of motorcycles even greater than that of vehicles. At the same time, the number of accidents and deaths due to this type of collision has increased, mainly male victims between 20 to 29 years of age and who collide mainly against some type of motor vehicle. Due to this, a little more than 200 years of life is lost for every 100 000 inhabitants in the country. Also, motorcyclists lose on average more than half of the life expectancy that they should have and more years are lost when they are disabled due to a traffic accident that dies. In addition, the areas where more years of life lost due to death and disability are lost are in the cantons where they are located in the provinces of San José and Alajuela. Finally, when the motorcyclist dies it has a cost of almost 12 million colones, when more than 5 million colones are disabled and when a little more than 1 million colones is almost unharmed. Therefore, the responsible institutions should propose regional strategies to the places where most years of life are lost due to death or disability and plan their road safety programs to emphasize the consequences of so many years being lost due to disability and the costs involved. be disabled, for people with low educational levels and between ages 20 to 29.
