The National Immunization Surveys (NIS) are random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone surveys used to assess vaccination coverage among children 19-35 months (NIS-Child), adolescents 13-17 years (NIS-Teen), and influenza vaccination coverage for children 6 months-17 years (NIS-Flu) in the United States. Declining response rates for cell phone samples motivated the exploration of new ways to encourage cell phone users to answer the NIS call and to participate in the NIS interview. NORC has explored two potential ways to encourage contact and participation through Neustar's Caller Name Optimization (CNO) and Branded Caller ID Display (BCD) products. CNO makes legitimate calls less likely to be flagged as spam on cell users' phones. BCD displays the CDC name and logo on enabled smart phones when an incoming call is received. In 2019, NORC assigned a portion of the NIS sample to be dialed from an outgoing number flagged for CNO, a portion to be dialed from an outgoing number flagged for BCD and CNO, and a control group to be dialed from an untreated outgoing number. The results of the evaluation will be described, showing differences between the treatment groups and the size of the impact.
