Three Steps for Entering a Session Proposal

Step 1: About the Session
Choose the session type. Select the type of session you are proposing. A PAPER session consists of two to six participants presenting papers or serving as discussants in the session. In the PANEL session format, a minimum of three and a maximum of six panelists provide commentary on a particular topic. Note: there are no discussants in a panel session.

Enter the session details. Organizers are required to confirm that the participant guidelines have been read and agreed to by all listed speakers, and that all have confirmed their participation in the session should it be accepted. Select up to three potential sponsors for your session.

  1. Enter the session title.
  2. Enter the session description. Please include the following information: short description of session, including focus, content, timeliness, and appeal; list of invited speakers/panelists, including affiliation and email address for each participant; tentative title for each presentation; and the session format (e.g., chair, four speakers, and discussant). Individual abstracts should not be submitted now.
  3. Designate whether the session has topics relevant to the JSM theme and/or will have special appeal to applied statisticians.
  4. Select the estimated audience size the session will attract.
When done, click the “Next Step” button.

Step 2: People
Enter current contact information for everyone involved in the session. A valid, unique email address is required for each person.

  • Organizer. This person is responsible for communicating with the session speakers and arranging the session chair and discussants (if any). You may add up to three additional organizers on the People step; the first organizer listed is the submitting organizer and is the contact for the session.
  • Chair. The session organizer can also chair the session; however, one person cannot chair and present a paper or serve as a discussant or panelist in the same session. Use the “Same as Submitting Organizer” option when they are the same person.
  • Discussants (invited paper sessions only, if applicable). Enter contact information for up to two discussants. Discussants are permitted but not required, and panel sessions have none. Please do not enter speaker or panelist names here - those belong in the session description in Step 1.
When done, click the “Next Step” button.

Step 3: Review and Submit
Review all of your entries on one page. Use the Edit links to go back and change any section before final submission. Once you click the “Submit Session” button, your entries are inserted into the database and a confirmation number is generated and displayed for you. You can return and edit the session any time before the deadline by signing in with the same account. The session submission and editing process will close September 23, 2026.
