About this session

National statistics comprises core data infrastructure to scientific advancement and democratic governance. Federal statistical agencies and government statistical offices administer surveys that gauge a nation's civil and economic well-being and disseminate data products that serve as benchmark information to support sound policymaking and social research. Statistics and Public Policy is ASA's prime venue for evidence-based quantitative research on all areas of public policy. This session, featuring four eminent speakers who authored recent articles in the Journal relating to the session's theme, provides insightful commentaries that shed light on the current challenges in maintaining the quality of national statistics and thereby its role as a trusted basis for scientific and societal consensus.
