CE_20C: An Introduction to Interactive Dashboard Programming Using R-Shiny (Added Fee)

Abstract: In recent years the demand for interactive dashboards to visualize data and compute on-demand analyses has greatly increased, and R-Shiny is an extremely useful (and open-source) software that statisticians and data scientists can use to build incredibly powerful and professional-looking interactive dashboards. R-Shiny applications are built in code (as opposed to point-and-click) and therefore extremely customizable and flexible. This course is designed to introduce participants to the basic structure of R-Shiny dashboards with hands-on examples. In addition, we will discuss options for how to deploy R-Shiny applications as well as some advanced topics and tools that may be useful in participants designing their own dashboards. It is recommended that participants have a working knowledge of R, but no prior experience with R-Shiny is necessary. The course is meant to be hands-on, so participants should a bring a laptop computer with them with a recent version of R (> R 4.0) installed. Instructor: Robert Ashmead is an expert R programmer who has been working with R-Shiny for close to 10 years. He is currently a Research Scientist at the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (Ohio State Wexner Medical Center) where he leads a research section focused on applied statistical methodology, interactive visualizations (dashboards), and GIS. He oversees or is directly responsible for the creation and upkeep of at least 10 R-Shiny dashboard applications in production primarily focused on survey and quality improvement applications.
