Abstract

Michael Woodroofe made outstanding contributions to Probability and Statistics during an academic lifetime from the late 1960’s to a few years before his death in 2022. This review will provide a broad survey of his theoretical and applied interests and a deeper look into his revolutionary contributions to Sequential Analysis and the associated nonlinear renewal theory.

With the help of brief anecdotes, I will also describe Michael as an academically generous and unassuming person
