Abstract:
|
Measuring and tracking health disparities among various subgroups in the population may be useful in assessing a nation's health. Such surveillance may help in developing key policies for public good. Unfortunately, there is no single data source that can be used across all age groups and disease categories. This project combines information from multiple data sources with varying measurement and response properties to track about one hundred health conditions over a twenty-year period. A variety of modeling strategies to handle measurement error, missing data, disease etiology and costs are brought to focus on quantifying health disparities by race and ethnicity. The developed infrastructure can be used to assess heterogeneity for other subgroups. Some inherent issues that affect understanding the reasons for race-ethnic health disparities will also be discussed.
