Abstract:

Despite historic levels of decline in the US labor market in early to mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the current job market for analytics careers has continued to reach new heights relative to previous years. The number of job postings requesting skill in biostatistics, business intelligence, data analysis, data management, data science, data visualization, machine learning, or statistics has grown 38.4% in the last year, 23.2% in the last two years, and 85.4% in the last four years compared to 26.3%, 27.2%, and 66.8%, respectively, for the entire US labor market (Source: economicmodeling.com). Of these eight skills, job postings requesting skill in machine learning or data science have shown the highest gains and have more than tripled in the last four years. Popular job titles requesting these skills such as data scientist, data analyst, data engineer, machine learning engineer, business analyst, and biostatistician have also shown impressive increases. This presentation will discuss changes in demand for analytics skills in the last four years and suggest skills and job titles with particularly high growth in the current analytics job market.
