Abstract:
|
Research Informatics groups often create large institutional data repositories (IDRs) for clinical research. IDRs bring together data from disparate clinical and research information systems. Research Informatics personnel are then available to assist investigators with clinical operations and research needs. In response to these research needs, we propose an innovative joint consultation mechanism between Biostatistics and Research Informatics. Biostatistics input early on is often necessary to focus the investigators on the number and format of data elements required to address the primary, secondary, and exploratory objectives of their research proposals. This input is crucial to assist Research Informatics staff with the analytic structure of the data sets they provide to the clinical investigators. This proposed mechanism allows for Biostatistics and Research Informatics personnel to hold joint consultations with clinical researchers. The proposed mechanism was recently driven by the large influx of COVID-19 related studies that were accessing large institutional data repositories.
