There are many factors relating to the successful graduation of minor league baseball players to the major leagues. While foremost should be the performance of the player, situational factors such as draft round, the position of the player, or whether they were drafted out of high school or college may have a significant impact on the time it takes a player to reach "the Show". This research applies competing risks analysis to investigate how such predictors influence the time it takes draftees to either reach the major leagues or retire before doing so. Teams, players and their agents all serve to benefit from better understanding of what factors lead to efficient and successful graduation of draftees in their pursuit of playing baseball at the highest level.
