Abstract:
|
Gupta and Sobel (1960) proposed a procedure RGS for selecting among several binomial populations a random-sized subset that includes the population with the largest success probability. Normal approximation with continuity correction was used for constructing tables needed to carry out the procedure. Bechhofer and Kulkarni (1982) introduced a strong curtailment for selecting the best binomial population. By adopting the strong curtailment idea, we propose a procedure R for selecting a random-sized subset that contains the best binomial population. We prove that the curtailed procedure R guarantees the same probability requirements as does RGS but R requires fewer observations. Meanwhile, exact calculation is used to construct tables needed to carry out the curtailed procedure R. An example is given to illustrate the proposed procedure.
