Abstract:

Since 2008, Statistics Without Borders (SWB) has collaborated on projects worldwide to provide pro bono statistical expertise to nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies, particularly from developing countries. SWB consults for organizations that have little to no statistical experience, resulting in a positive impact on these organizations by helping with survey design and implementation, data visualization, other research-oriented tasks, and educational development and classes. This session will highlight several recent SWB projects where we helped groups to collect, use, analyze, and present data in meaningful and impactful ways. Projects include a collaboration between SWB and UNICEF on a standardized survey tool across 12 countries on community behaviors during COVID 19; consulting with the India Excellence Forum to develop a prototype dashboard to be used by a large city to manage COVID 19; and developing classes with the African Institute for Professional Development for university graduates and young professionals in Rwanda to bridge the gap between university and careers, including applied classes in statistics, accounting, insurance, and finance.
