In addition to being a place to learn, scientists can share content and develop their individual voice. As one’s following grows, a scientist can reach colleagues in other fields or applied sectors, and even journalists, policy-makers, and the general public. In the age of “altmetrics,” consider how social media can help you increase the impact and influence of your work. During this roundtable, we will discuss: the potential value of social media, types of engagement strategies, developing your content, and navigating pitfalls. We will talk about how an online presence – be it through Twitter, a blog, a YouTube channel, a personal website, or more – can be part of your broader portfolio, translate into new professional opportunities, and increase the accessibility of science.
