Abstract:

This proposal is for a roundtable session on career development from the standpoint of a mid-career faculty memory working at the interface of epidemiology and biostatistics of dementia research. Dr. Alden Gross is a psychiatric epidemiologist with substantive research interest in cognitive aging and mental health, as well as methodological expertise in multilevel modeling, missing data, structural equation modeling, and latent variable methods. He has mentored 20+ graduate students (currently, 2 PhD students and 1 masters student) and non-tenure track faculty. This roundtable will engage junior and mid-career faculty who see themselves as applied biostatisticians or methodologists. We will discuss strategies to commit to a scientific domain during one’s career, rather than working in a supportive capacity service in a supportive capacity. Attendees will benefit from networking as well as advice about professional development, and discussion of leadership opportunities the distinguish oneself.
