Many institutions now offer a class on statistical or data communication, and there is some agreement about what topics that course should cover. Many focus on data visualization and/or written communication about statistical products. Some also incorporate speaking about data. But, much like the debate about what counts as statistics, there are grey areas about what counts as statistical communication. Does code count? What about data journalism? Writing about data practitioners? Table design? This talk will explore some common themes from existing statistical and data communication courses, and provide ideas for the future.
