A career journey begins with excitement of new endeavors, opportunities and challenges of evolving from novice in a field to expert. At a late-career stage, the benefits of a wide network and recognition by peers bring new opportunities for making contributions. Advice for navigating the early-career and late-career stages is often the focus of our attention. This panel will consider the forgotten middle and explore the questions that mid-career statisticians and data scientists should ask as they confront the unique challenges and opportunities at the mid-career stage. Mid-career is the time when women are likely to be pulled in multiple directions by work and family -from aging parents, growing children, mentees, professional service, etc. At this point, women often question their contributions to their career, their family and their society. This is a time, when women often put their career on the back-burner to address life-balance issues. The panel will offer perspectives from women who will look back on their mid-career experiences and women beginning their mid-career journey. The idea is, women need to find the delicate balance & not forget about themselves in the process.
