Abstract:

Students are generally mentored in statistical methods and research through pathways such as direct advising, coursework, or collaboration with peers. However, students can benefit from additional mentoring in professional development including hidden agendas in academia, imposter syndrome, and diversity, equity, and inclusion topics. These professional development topics are a part of the foundation for a data scientist in the modern era. In this panel session, panelists will discuss strategies to reach a variety of student populations with relevant topics. Panelists will also share resources and structures for ensuring mentoring for professional success is available to all students.
