Time Zone
Washington, DC, is in the Eastern Time Zone.

Weather
August tends to be very warm and muggy in Washington, DC. The morning and evening low temperatures are usually in the 70s F (21–22 C), while the afternoons tend to be hot, mostly in the upper 80s F (31–32 C). Websites providing basic weather information include www.weather.gov and weather.com.

Parking
More than 3,000 parking spaces are located within a three-block radius of the convention center, including surface lots and garages. Exhibitors and attendees are encouraged to use these public parking facilities. Parking regulations are heavily enforced in the convention center’s surrounding residential areas. There is no public parking at the convention center.

Restaurants
There are more than 100 restaurants located in downtown Washington, DC, alone, not including fast food, delis, and take out. Called “one of the most exciting restaurant cities on the East Coast” by Travel + Leisure magazine, DC’s culinary distinctions include James Beard award-winning chefs and AAA Five Diamond ratings and restaurants included on Esquire’s list of the “Best New Restaurants in America.”

Attractions
We will keep you busy with JSM activities, but we do hope you find some time to check out some of the attractions Washington, DC, has to offer. Whether you are looking for museums, tours, historic sites, or one of the hundreds of free things to do, the nation’s capital has something for you.

Child Care
We have partnered with leading child care provider KiddieCorp to offer JSM attendees babysitting for children 6 months to 12 years old. Care will be located within the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for $12/hour. Parents should provide meals and snacks. Details, pricing, and reservation information is available on the KiddieCorp–JSM 2022 webpage. There is limited space, so reserve early.

Rail
Washington, D.C. is accessible via Amtrak.

Public Transportation
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA): DC’s subway and bus system is called “Metro”

MARC Train: this commuter train offers an inexpensive way to get to DC from BWI Airport

Amtrak: take the train to Union Station, in the heart of DC (station name online: Washington – Union Station, DC)

DC Circulator: this local bus system connects Union Station with Georgetown, the National Mall with Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and a seasonal loop around the National Mall

Hotels
Most of the JSM events will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center; however, meetings and other events will be held at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC.

There is a special housing sub-block set up at the Marriott Marquis to accommodate JSM attendees with mobility needs. Please look for the sub-block in the list of options from the reservation link.
