Abstract:
|
Dynamical systems models have historically been workhorses of the physical sciences and applied mathematics, but have received relatively little attention from statistics. The first part of our introductory overview lecture will focus on the theory and methods behind dynamical systems and their application in statistics. It covers the mechanistic approach taken to developing dynamical systems models within applied mathematics and the analysis of their behavior. We then discuss methods to match differential equation models to data with examples from ecological and immunological processes.
