Abstract:

The ASA in early 2019 established an Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Data Science to address the need for the ASA to expand its scope of involvement with data science. The committee, which completed its work in March 2020, proposed a number of recommendations to the ASA Board of Directors. This panel discussion involves six of the members of the committee summarizing these recommendations, and discussing additional proposals that came out of committee deliberations. Because the work begun by this committee is likely to continue, the panel seeks audience participation to help generate further ideas and initiatives for ways in which the ASA can be more successful in navigating the quickly-growing world of data science.
