The research objective is to develop an integrated approach to addressing osteoarthritis that identifies location specific resources, in the context of local social determinants of health, that would support improvement of Osteoarthritis management based on individuals’ attributions, co-morbid conditions and patient perceptions Given the high cost of healthcare usage for individuals with osteoarthritis and co-morbid health conditions, including mental health, the interim costs and risks –both in dollars and in quality of life- associated with pain management medications and the isolating impact of pain accompanying movement, a targeted approach seems appropriate. In particular, consumers with osteoarthritis and depression need coordinated mental health treatment to overcome barriers to behaviors that support their osteoarthritis management. To accomplish this we attempt to link geo-spatial knowledge, models of social determinants of health and customer survey results to determine the potential gain to consumers of this integrated approach
