Abstract:
|
There are more displaced persons in the world than at any other time in history. The UNHCR estimates that there are over 25.9 million refugees globally. Neighboring countries - which are often developing nations - typically bear the burden of hosting these refugees. While middle-income and wealthy nations contribute to the global effort, their efforts are not harmonized, and host countries often do not receive an adequate level of funding. This paper explores how refugee host countries are financing their refugee asylum programs by linking global datasets. Leveraging the power of data science and data visualizations, this analysis aims to provide evidence-based policy recommendations for how the global community can work as one to help host, protect and resettle refugees.
