We would like to stimulate discussions among statisticians and survey methodologists about the integration between data science and survey methodology into research and educational programs. Researchers have made process applying data science tools in survey research or using survey design concepts to evaluate data science outputs, however, a gap still exists across the inter-disciplinary fields. Data science, as a new discipline with degree or certificate programs, has become very popular and attractive with large student enrollment numbers, however, the student interest in studying in survey methodology programs or taking courses on survey research has been dramatically declining. This is mainly due to market demands, and also teaching contexts and misconceptions. We argue that survey methodology and data science should be integrated into a systematic curriculum to better educate the next generations of data scientists or survey methodologists. We aim to discuss about the impacts and approaches of such integration.
