Abstract:
|
We propose the Additive Functional Cox Model to ?exibly quantify the association between functional covariates and time to event data. The model extends the linear functional proportional hazards model and introduces ?exible transformations of the functional covariates to address the weak model identi?ability in areas of information sparsity. Methods are applied to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and quantify new and interpretable patterns of physical activity that are associated with time to death. We also introduce a simple and novel sim- ulation framework for survival data with functional predictors. The accompanying inferential R software is fast, open source and publicly available.
