Abstract #312976
Title: Using Wavelets to Identify Differences in Methylation Data
Author(s): Jill Lundell* and Rafael Irizarry

Keywords: wavelets; epigenetics; methylation
Abstract:

Epigenetics is being used to identify important differences in cell types, including comparing tumor and healthy cells, different tissue types, and even different tumor types. Sharp changes in methylation may be important in differentiating between cell types, but many smoothers smooth out such areas. Wavelets were developed to reduce noise without smoothing over sudden changes in the signal. This talk shows how wavelets can be used to find patterns in methylation data that may be missed through more traditional methods.
