The ability to work with data has become an essential 21st century skill and there are a variety of areas where those with these skills can apply their talents. This roundtable will discuss statistics and analytics in professional services organizations with a focus on those whose work is mainly funded through contracts with US federal and state agencies. Our experiences cover work with many different agencies (for example the Centers for Disease Control, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Social Security Administration, and others) and we will focus on describing our experiences, current work environments, and the advantages of working in this environment. The roundtable is aimed at new investigators who are considering careers outside of academia or for those consideration a transition out of academia. We have diverse experiences and will be encouraging an open dialogue where we can answer questions and demystify the work in this arena which is very often rewarding, at large scale, and lead to nationwide policy changes. We will raise some questions and focal points that influenced our decision making process.
